Karen Chanon

Karen Chanon has always wanted to work in the educational field. She graduated from the University of Texas receiving her teaching certification with a concentration in reading. Ms. Chanon has spent 17 years teaching elementary students in both the public and private school systems. Before teaching at AJA, Ms. Chanon taught for four years at another private school implementing and developing a multi–age K—2 program and previously taught both kindergarten and 1st grade at the Austin Jewish Academy. She has also taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades as a teacher for nine years with the Austin Independent School District. Karen grew up in Wichita, Kansas. She is married to Greg Chanon and when she is not busy with her classroom she enjoys spending time with her daughter, Jacci, who attends the University of Kansas and her energetic 19 year old twins, Reid and Ryan. Besides teaching, Karen also loves walking, swimming, mahjong, cooking and reading.
