“When Klee met Kandinsky”

In 5nd grade the first Element of Art that we are learning is “Shape”.

Shape is a self-contained defined area of geometric or organic form. The three basic shapes: the circle, the square, and the triangle are considered to be the fundamental shapes found in all design. We read The Noisy Paint Box by Barb Rosenstock and The Cat and the Bird by Geraldine Elschner.

We looked at Paul Klee’s: Castle and Sun (1928) and Kandinsky’s Squares with centric Circles (1913). The students drew geometric and organic shapes to create their own intriguing paintings. Once drawn, the students painted with watercolor medium. (water color paints, crayons, pastels and chalks).
