6th Grade Judaics Update

By in

Sixth grade is having fun writing “resumes” for the characters they will be playing in JCAT, the online forum where they take on a new persona and converse with other characters from throughout history. In our class, we have Nelson Mandela and Shimon Peres and King David talking with Jesus and Anne Frank and Santa Anna (and more!!!) – a variety of personalities coming together to discuss important themes and issues. I can honestly say that I have laughed out loud at some of the creativity of these resumes, and that your children are such gifted writers who are really “getting into character” – this will make the whole experience so much richer for everyone. Looking ahead for JCAT, we will be “meeting” other characters and getting into spirited discussions with a range of characters who are students at other Jewish Day Schools across America!

We have also learned a great deal about Mishna – and even had a chance to read some “Mishanyot” about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Looking ahead, we will be looking at some Mishnayot that deal with how to build a Kosher sukkah, and students will have the opportunity to build their own, including a “treehouse” Sukkah, a Sukkah on a camel, or a “double-decker” sukkah (and more!!). There are some really fun ones, and I’m excited for your children to “learn by doing” and figure out what makes a Sukkah kosher, unkosher, or up for debate by some rabbis!!!

Chag Sameach!!
