We continued our human body systems unit with lots of great activities this month. For the circulatory system, students learned to measure their heart rate…

And even conducted virtual open heart surgery!

For the digestive system, students listened to their gastro-esophageal sphincter as they swallowed water. They also tested foods for the presence of different types of carbohydrates.

One of the peak experiences was the chicken wing and frog dissections. The students dissected chicken wings to explore the relationship between muscles and bones, and frogs to explore the interaction of all body systems.

As you can see, the students enjoyed the dissections! Next up, we are moving to a short unit on adaptations focusing on plants, then on to ecosystems!
