Seventh grade has just finished Shmuel Aleph, or Samuel 1. Our major overarching theme throughout the study of this book was looking at the model of a king – specifically Saul – as a model for leadership. We saw his ascent into the kingship and why he was originally chosen. We’ve seen his mistake of not following through on all of G-d’s commands. We’ve seen his paranoia rise as a new character, David, is introduced. We’ve seen David “come into his own” as a leader of his own army, and we’ve seen that strength and fairness have been the cornerstone of his leadership so far. Now, Saul and his sons have died, leaving David as King of Israel! Dun dun dun…
