To finish our unit on energy, the students built and raced solar panel cars. While building their cars, they were skeptical that they would actually function. Once we went outside, however, the enthusiasm became contagious! After they first observed their cars, they were able to tweak their designs for our final race to maximize sunlight. It was a great end to the unit!

We’ve started a new unit on oceanography, and we’ve done labs on salinity, density, and buoyancy. Thinking about these concepts in terms of worldwide current systems can be challenging, but the students have remained engaged. We’ve also started working on our Rube Goldberg project, which is in its early design stages. More to come soon!
