We have just completed a unit on factoring. The students reviewed finding the greatest common factor, and quickly mastered factoring using GFC. Factoring using the quadratic formula was challenging for many of them, and was made even more so by the short spring break and addition of special case problems.
I was truly impressed with the way the students worked through their difficulties this unit. Learning to factor is very abstract, and there are lots of rules. Having a basic understanding of these rules, we are now ready to move on to quadratic equations!
