We started off by looking at some of Pablo Picasso’s Cubist period and how the profile and frontal views of a face merged to form a typical “Picasso†portrait and how he used the same technique in his painting of La Coq 1938 (The Rooster). We talked about the placement of the rooster’s eyes and how Picasso broke up the body into angular sections.
Our students got busy. First they used a colored chalk pastel to draw the rooster with some guidance and they started to color in with chalk pastels. They will complete the drawing with some oil pastels to create a pattern onto the colored areas and an outline of the rooster to create an interesting pop to this art piece.
