Bridges to First grade

By in ,

Last week we learned all about Johnny Appleseed and tied in apples to science, math and language arts.   We chopped apples for our homemade applesauce, taste tested 6 different kinds of apples, had centers for math and science that were all apple related, finished assembling our Johnny Appleseed pop up books and tasted our delicious applesauce and cider. We even talked about Rosh Hashana and dipped apples in honey.

This week we learned about Benjamin Franklin, the good citizen and the scientist.  We’ve revisited skip counting in math to 100 and counting up coins using pennies, nickels and dimes.  In phonics we are learning about the sounds of the digraphs of th, sh,ch and wh as well as the ending sound of ck.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
