Bridges to First Grade Oct.8

By in , ,

As the weather is starting to get a little cooler, your first graders are now settling into their routines.  We have had a lot of fun skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s and using lots of manipulatives as we learn.  We did a small unit on U.S. symbols and learned to take notes using the main idea and specific details.  With the study of Sukkot we talked about houses, who builds them and what kinds of materials you need.  Later we tried to build our own houses/sukkot using various recycled materials.  We learned to work in teams and to talk about our plans first.  See photos.

We are looking forward to exploring the different properties of matter in Science.  We will do experiments that will help us to understand all about solids, liquids and gases. In Social Studies we will be working on map skills to help us prepare for our study of cultures around the world.  We will talk about the houses in different countries as well as some of their national symbols.  We will learn about the similarities and differences of people from all around the world.  In Math we will continue to learn about numbers, math symbols, coins and counting.

Don’t forget to keep on reading!
