"Camp update"

By in ,

We have had another great week together!  Thank you for coming to Back to School Night!  Today we counted the teddy bears in the estimation jar and there were 96 teddy bears.  Meredith, who estimated 86 teddy bears, was our closest guesser.  If you weren’t able to make it, I would appreciate it if you fill out the forms I sent home today and return them in your child’s purple folder.

This Week…

We have been talking about making text to self connections while reading the stories Wimberely Worried and The Brand New Kid.

For the daily 5 students have been working on building their reading stamina.  This week the students read independently for 7 minutes!  Our class goal is to read for 20 uninterrupted minutes.  We have also been working with our words of the week.  Students got to “jump rope” and spell words on each others back to practice their words.

The counselor joined our class to read The Golden Rule and the students discussed ways they can treat their friends kindly.

We have started to learn our math time procedures for solving problems and working with a partner.  Ask your child what they do when I say “superman” or “hammock.”

We read the story Officer Buckle and Gloria and discussed why it’s important to have rules.  The students made stick puppets and retold the story with a partner.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day!  It is our first time to get together with our 5th grade buddies.  Looking forward to a fabulous Friday!
