December Blog - 5th Jewish Studies

Fifth grade just finished an exciting trial complete with witness testimony, cross-examination, evidence, and more. The class jury found “the brothers” to be guilty of harming Joseph, but in the process many of them saw that this was not a simple issue! Not all the brothers are guilty, for example, and many students thought Jacob himself was guilty of bad parenting. This was well-timed, as 5th grade is now doing their own trials in homeroom! I’m looking forward to continuing with the story of Joseph in Egypt.

During Chanukah, we also focused on the “oil” aspect of this holiday, and we specifically learned what the Torah says about the quality of oil needed to light the Menorah in the Temple, and we looked at several rabbinic interpretations of this, also. Your children constantly impress me with their creativity and passion for learning!

I cannot wait to see what 2016 holds for AJA’s 5th graders!
