Second grade students first read the book: Degas and the little Dancer by Laurence Anholt. Then they looked at pictures of ballet dancers drawn and painted by Edward Degas. They created a tutu by painting coffee filter in liquid watercolors. The students drew in pencil -starting with torso then neck, head and arms in a ballet position and finally legs and feet/ballet shoes. The students then drew the background of their choice. They then colored their ballerina and background in chalk pastels and once done added on her tutu to complete this picture.
