Jewish Studies - First Grade

By in ,

It is so much fun to see all the smiling faces in first grade.  They are excited that this year they will be receiving their own Siddur.  In preparation for that event we are reviewing our prayers that we learned in Kindergarten (introducing them to our new friends) and will soon be adding some new ones to our knowledge of Tefillah.  As always I stress that Shabbat is our most important holiday since we celebrated it weekly.  We look forward to the opportunity to sing and celebrate on a regular basis.  The weekly parsha (Torah portion) is discussed when appropriate.  As we approach the High Holy Days, we are reviewing the symbols of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and discussing the importance of Teshuvah (turning over a new leaf).  Reading Jewish stories and doing crafts is a frequent part of our lessons.
