Kindergarten Jewish Studies

By in ,

As I explained at Back to School Night,  the Jewish Calendar is my curriculum guide.  In our study of Chags (holidays)  – we have learned about Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur.  We have made placemats for the holidays and talked about the symbols associated with Rosh Hashanah.  On the afternoon of Yom Kippur, the story of Jonah and the big fish is retold and we have several versions to share in class.  Our literature has also included books about apples and honey, coordinating with the kindergarten classroom focus.  One of the hardest lessons for all of us is to learn to say “I’m sorry”.  Through a Shalom Sesame story featuring Grover and some of his Israeli friends; we learned the importance of doing this.  Tefillah (prayers) has included the introduction of Modeh Ani and the Shema.  A sweet New Year to all.
