Researching Away in Sixth Grade!

By in ,

Dear Parents,

Can you believe that it’s almost November?! The sixth grade school year is in full swing!

Last week, we began researching for our unit on the indigenous peoples of Meso- and South America. Ask your student which group s/he is studying. They have already gathered so much information; I can’t wait to see how they choose to present it in early November. Check out the project expectations and background here Indigenous Civilizations project Soon, we will begin reading Chris Eboch’s The Well of Sacrifice to go along with our unit on the Inca, Maya, and Aztec civilizations.

We are also reviewing the skills involved in the science fair research paper. So far, we have spent time in class gathering notes. On Friday, we will compile our notes into notecards that will facilitate the writing and organizational process. We will also spend time in class converting our science research into prose. Our efforts will culminate in paragraph construction.

Today, we spent time organizing our calendars and double-checking that we all understand where we should be with research and projects. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please be in touch.

Happy autumn!
