Third Grade Jewish Studies Den Blog - October

By in ,

Third grade is having so much fun this year in Jewish studies already! We have just started our big unit on Lech Lecha, which is the beginning of the story of Avram and Sarai and their journey to Canaan. We have learned what a Chumash is, and most importantly, what is inside of the Chumash – all the stories we know and love about our favorite Torah characters! I am so excited to be on this journey along with your students as they get to know Avram and Sarai, and grapple with the complexities of their story. I can’t wait to see you as your children receive their first chumash on November 19th in a beautiful ceremony.

Along with Lech Lecha, we will be doing an in-depth study of the map of Israel – particularly using the phrase “location, location, location!!!” so we fully understand why the land of Israel is in such an important location, as it it between Asia, Africa, and Europe. We will also look at cities and sites of interest throughout the year.
Third grade will also have a focus on learning the Torah service this year – some of which you will be able to see at their chumash ceremony, and the rest will be finished by the end of the year. Additionally, we are focusing on learning some of the Hallel service, which is recited on festive days such as Sukkot or Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the new Jewish month. I am already having such a blast learning in 3rd grade with your children, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year will bring!
